I have been a creative, crafty, do it myself person my whole life. "You should start a business," my family and friends would say when I whip some creation of mine. The problem is that I don't really enjoy making anything twice.
So time went on as did my ideas. My husband and I joined forces and brought home a puppy one year. It just so happened that my baking and cooking instincts were kicking in at the same time. I never had a dog growing up so everything about being a dog owner was brand spanking new to me. I stumbled upon dog treat recipes and made a few batches. They came out alright but I loved the idea of making my own fresh treats and having the control of what exactly they are made of.
A few years passed and we brought home another puppy. By this time I was a label reading, no box mixes, canning, growing, crazy person! We raised our own chickens and our front yard is becoming an edible lawn.
One night, it dawned on me that I absolutely love making treats for my dogs and don't mind making them over and over and over! Could this be my business that I have been looking for? So with my newly acquired baking skills, I drafted up my own recipes and finely tuned them with the help from some very hungry taste testers (including me), mailed off samples to a laboratory for feed analysis, and mailed in all my legal paperwork.
I am proud to say now that FleischSmith's Barkery is open for business!
